Kirton Angel 3/1 (1pt)

Although the likes of Through The Gate, Benbecula and Deputy Vice cost more than KIRTON ANGEL (best priced at 9/4) at the sales, she looks the one to beat in this contest having run well on her debut at York. The Richard & Peter Fahey trained filly is closely rated to Proverb who won three times as a two-year-old and was rated above 100. The selection was sent off 14/1 on her debut when 3rd at York in a strong contest which has worked out well.

The winner Betty Boop has since won a Sandown handicap off a mark of 79 and is now rated 84. The second Elevating has won since and is now rated is 86 having run well at both listed and Group 3 level. The 4th Roman Crystal has won since and is rated 68 and even the fifth is now rated 78 and the sixth has won since. She looks the one to beat in receipt of 5lbs from the colts and geldings.

Travis 15/2 (0.5pt ew)

The Geoffrey Harker trained TRAVIS (best priced at 15/2) won over this course and distance in June off only a 2lb higher mark and he should appreciate the drop back down in class. The five-year-old won by nearly two lengths that day and has since run well to finish 3rd at Beverley, Doncaster and Redcar off marks of 65, 64 and 63.

Travis disappointed last time at Thirsk but that was over a mile in a Class 5 handicap and he will appreciate the return to Redcar, the drop in grade to Class 6 company, the drop in trip to 7f and his reduced rating of 61. He is drawn high in Stall 15 so he should get a good lead into the race from Finn Ironside and he should outrun his odds.

Night Emperor 10/3 (1pt)

This is a rematch between the 1-2-3-4 from 18 days ago over this course and distance with preference going to NIGHT EMPEROR (best priced at 10/3) who raced away from the three others. Hurstwood won the race from Stall 20, Ziva’s Star who wore first-time blinkers that day finished 2nd from Stall 16, Stormy Pearl finished 3rd from Stall 17 and Night Emperor finished 4th from Stall 2.

On the run before that Night Emperor had won over this course and distance to show his liking for the track and he runs off the same mark whereas Hurstwood has been raised 7lbs. This time Hurstwood is drawn in Stall 17 and Night Emperor is drawn in Stall 16 and hopefully that means the selection can reverse that form.
