The Andrew Balding trained OLD IS GOLD (best priced at 5/4) got back to winning ways last time at Goodwood over 6f and he should be able to defy a 5lb rise in the weights. The three-year-old had looked a sprinter of huge potential when finishing a close 3 rd in a Goodwood nursery last season but his first couple of starts this season were slightly disappointing.

Old Is Gold didn’t get the clearest of runs when fitted with a first-time visor at York when only 5 th over 5f but he seemed to relish the step back up in trip to 6f last time when making all at Goodwood.

The better ground shouldn’t inconvenience him and he should be able to win this off top weight.

TIP 2: Witch Hunter - 0.5pt EW

WITCH HUNTER (best priced at 16/1) is an inconsistent horse who is no doubt well handicapped off
a mark of 92. His seven career victories have come off higher ratings than this with his two wins in 2026 coming off marks of 101 and 93. His latest success came at Thirsk in August but since then has run well at Newbury to finish 6 th beaten only 3 lengths off a mark of 95.

Witch Hunter has won over this course and distance in the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes in 2023 as well as finishing a nose 2 nd in the same race the year after so it is a course that suits him well. Jamie Spencer will no doubt ride him from the rear but he should be staying on well with up to six places available.
