UK Horse Racing Tips: Newmarket

Charlie Appleby's colt is the first foal out of a winning full-sister to Farhh and he'll take some stopping if inheriting the family ability. Hamrin also requires close inspection in the betting.

Having finished runner-up on her last two outings, LADY ROXBY arrives here in fine fettle. The four-year-old is 1lb well-in after last week's second at Yarmouth and she is fancied to take full advantage. Irish raider Bear On The Run is likely to prove just as popular in her bid to complete a hat-trick and Danny Murphy's filly is feared most, ahead of Woohoo.

Several of these are still open to plenty of improvement, with a tentative vote going to LAZURITE. Richard Hughes' filly put a lacklustre display at Goodwood behind her when making all with ease at Lingfield and an official mark of 85 looks workable. Harry Knows arrives on the back of a good third in a Listed event at Ripon and he merits respect, along with Black Velvet Boy.

Great Balls O'Fire impressed when winning easily on the July Course over 6f on debut and if he takes a step forward for the experience, he could be a danger to all. Varzi was not disgraced when fifth in Listed company at Doncaster and is another to consider, but preference is for MEZZO FORTE. The William Haggas-trained colt made all at York to win on his second start and similar tactics under Ryan Moore could get his rivals off the bridle a long way out.

The Gosden yard last won this in 2023 with the brilliant Trawlerman and they have every chance of repeating the feat with GREGORY. The six-year-old lifted the Queen's Vase three years ago and although it was a long time between drinks, he won again last time out at York on his return from the sidelines and first start following wind surgery. If he truly stays this distance, he may prove too classy for these, although Goblet Of Fire and Arabian Force will let him know he has been in a race.

FIRST OFFICER was no match for the potentially smart Race To The Stars when runner-up on the July Course last month. This is less competitive and, back on his last winning mark with Jane Chapple-Hyam's yard in fine form, he gets another chance. Alternatives abound in an open affair, with recent Windsor winner King Of Berkshire a threat if allowed his own way in front. Progressive pair Charles Darnay and Zurna are others of interest.

It could pay to stick with A LA NOCHE. He showed the benefit of last month's belated reappearance when scoring easily at Salisbury on only his second start for Oliver Cole and has enough scope to defy a 7lb hike. Potomac River is edging closer to his first win having finished a close second at Kempton recently. He rates a danger, while Ecclefechan missed out on a hat-trick in a tougher contest at Windsor and is not out of this.
