Jake Price lists two standout betting option for Tuesday's racing cards at Newcastle.
14:31 Newcastle – Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (Class 3) – 3mSee All Odds
TIP 1: KENT DE THAIX - 1pt Win
Best odds available of 7/2 at Betfred while publishing.
Owners Sprayclad UK are no strangers to owning nice horses, and dual point-to-point winner KENT
DE THAIX looks a very nice type for the Sam England team on his Chase debut. Last year this 6yo began his career under rules with Rebecca Menzies, where after two runs he finally got off the mark at Carlisle in December, where he absolutely bolted up by 16 lengths.
The Grade 2 River Don Novices’ Hurdle next time out at Doncaster was then a stretch too far, and then at
Kelso in February he ran a much better race when perhaps a little too keen over 2m6½f at Kelso. His owners decided it was time for a change of scenery when he moved across to Sam England in March, and on debut for the yard that change immediately paid dividends. Stepped up in trip to 3m off a mark of 119, he jumped very well and stayed on strongly to the line.
It was a nice performance to beat American Mike (139) by 1.75 lengths, and I think it is the type of victory that marks him down as an improved Horse who will be ready to make up into a lovely Novice Handicap Chaser this season. He rounded off his campaign with a very acceptable sixth placed effort at Ayr in April when behind Alentejo, who bolted up having got his preferred ground.
Perhaps those stamina sapping conditions are not exactly what KENT DE THAIX wants, but either way he has since gone off for wind-surgery to rectify any issues. This decent ground at Newcastle should be perfect though, and a first-time tongue-tie goes on to assist further with his breathing. Sam England is currently operating at a 23% strike rate so seems to have his string in good order, and I think the short-priced Silver Hill is worth taking on considering he has never been campaigned in the stronger Novice events. Dunkerque seemed to show his limitations off his mark at Warwick last time.
16:01 Newcastle – Maiden National Hunt Flat Race (Class 5) – 2m1fSee All Odds
TIP 2: CAYENNE - 1pt Win
Best odds of 2/1 at bet365 while publishing.
Trainer Nicky Richards has a tremendous record in Bumpers over the past 15 years, recording an impressive 66 winners from 278 runners (23.7% strike rate) in that period. So far in 2026 he has unleashed some very smart looking types including Latosca Du Houx, Lady Walk On Bye, Poets Whisper and Attin, but one who narrowly missed out on running in the spring was CAYENNE, who connections are very excited about running this Autumn.
This 4yo is a half-brother to dual Hurdles winner Maple, but he is also directly related to two Flat winners – including Picual who reached a rating of 81. He is also from the family of New Bay, who won the Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club in May 2025 and peaked at an OR of 121 on the Flat, so clearly was he was a top-class animal who has gone on to do great things as a Sire.
Mr and Mrs Sloan paid 52,000 guineas for this offcast from the Juddmonte operation, and as such he joins Nicky Richards as a Horse who is overly qualified to be winning Bumper races; so that in combination with his record in these types of races makes him extremely interesting. It is also very interesting that he is by the Sire Ghaiyyath, who is only now starting to have runners under National Hunt rules, but four out of the seven have won races.
Finally, it is worth noting that whilst Nicky Richards has a particularly good record in Bumpers at an overall level, he has an a particularly good record at Newcastle. Over the same past 15 years he has had 13 winners from 38 runners at the track, which equates to a 34.2% strike rate. In 2025 he was 2/5 and in 2026 so far he is 2/3, so this is the ideal track for CAYENNE to be making his debut. With the yard in good form, everything looks right for a debut success.
