Vol Royale runs for a buoyant yard and, having won three of his last four starts, must be taken seriously. Moorland Rambler and Heart Over Head are others resuming with reasonable chances based on peak efforts.

IT'S A BREEZE and Alright Dai have a proven fitness edge over some of their main rivals and are suggested as the pair to focus on. The former boasts the stronger recent profile and the Paul Nicholls-trained gelding edges the vote for selection. Star Of Affinity resumes off just 3lb above his last winning mark and the top weight can also have a big say given he has gone well when fresh before now.

This can go to WESTERN CROSS, who rounded off last season on a high with a win at Exeter and the Philip Hobbs & Johnson White-trained gelding has enough promise to make an immediate impact from a 5lb higher mark. All Well And Good is another with the potential for improvement, while Rock On Cowboy, who was an encouraging second on his chasing bow at Worcester, is the pick of the rest back over timber.

CENTARA is a familiar face at Newton Abbot and has won half of his eight starts here. His most recent efforts have hardly set the world alight but the handicapper's grip has loosened and, perhaps more importantly, he is reunited with Jay Tidball, who has been in the saddle for the eight-year-old's last five victories. Opening Bid made a pleasing comeback over hurdles at Chepstow, while the returning point-to-point winner Sinchi Roca goes chasing for the first time.

Badbury Rings is the only one with a recent run under his belt, although he needs to step forward markedly from that Worcester fourth. Of significantly more interest is FAIRYE FORTH, who got closest to the very promising Crystal Island at Ffos Las before returning there to land the odds at the expense of three subsequent winners. A mark of 117 for his chase/handicap debut is definitely workable. Mask Of Zorro's winning spree came to an end at Bangor, but he could resume that forward momentum now faced with a fence.
