Andy Holding selects two top betting angles for Monday's racing at Plumpton and Wolverhampton.
2.30 PLUMPTON
TIP 1: KOCKTAIL BLEU – 1-point win
Best odds of 9/4 at bet365, William Hill, Ladbrokes and Coral while publishing.
You can imagine connections of KOCKTAIL BLEU put a big circle around this race in the programme book at the start of the season and following a bright start to the campaign when fourth in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow, the long-term target can be realised.
Setting off with a degree of intent in his bid to make all at the Welsh track, the six-year-old grey was still in front at the second last but it was from that point when lack of an outing took over his system and he eventually faded into fourth on the run-in.
Still, his effort was a very commendable one considering it was just his second attempt at 2m4f and with the form of the race taking timely boosts with both Perseus Way and Washington winning in recent days, confidence levels have increased accordingly that he can follow suit around today’s less demanding track.
5.00 WOLVERHAMPTON
TIP 2: CHANTELLE – 1-point win
Best odds of 7/2 at bet365, Sky Bet, Paddy Power and William Hill while publishing.
If CHANTELLE were a greyhound, she would permanently feel like she was in trap 6 but despite being handed yet another wide stall here today, Sir Mark Prescott’s filly can still overcome such an impost.
Housed in box 11 of 11 at the Dunstall venue over the C&D two starts ago, she did well to finish a creditable fourth under the circumstances, forced to race wide throughout, and although there were two worse off than her on her return visit last time out, it was still enough of an issue to prevent her from winning.
She did, however, try her level best to make good of a bad situation, running on strongly to finish third after being dropped out in the rear, and her speed figure in defeat backed up that view.
Unbelievably handed 9 of 9 here again this evening, at least the race numbers make the playing field slightly less demanding and with a record over today’s C&D that read 1143, the daughter of Gleneagles is still fancied to give it a good lash.
