TIP 1: MY GOOD PAL – 0.5 Pts EW

Best odds of 9/1 at William Hill, Paddy Power, Sky Bet and a range of other bookmakers at the time of posting.

There is a bit of value to be had with MY GOOD PAL in this handicap contest, and I am inclined to give him another chance to get his head in front, although he’s been far from prolific in his career to date with just the one victory from 31 starts under rules.

Gavin Cromwell’s seven-year-old is not exactly arriving with a glittering recent record, but there is enough in the book to suggest he can get involved in this one. His second at Downpatrick in August, over 2m6f, was a decent effort, and although things have not gone to plan in his subsequent outings, I would not be writing him off just yet.

The return to hurdles is a positive after his latest outing over fences at Sligo, while today’s 2m4f trip looks ideal to put together a better run, and given that his sole success came over this distance, coupled with the 7lb claim in the saddle, he can run a good race off a light weight.
