TIP 1: JUST A GLANCE - 1pt Win

Best odds of 9/2 at bet365 while publishing.

When we backed JUST A GLANCE at Fontwell last month I thought she had plenty of excuses, as she
didn’t jump as fluently as she can do, and she also raced on the wrong part of the track. Grand Conqueror (127) ended up running out a ready winner having been very well supported in the market, but with fitness now on side I am expecting a much better performance from Ian Chanin’s star Mare, who is still very well treated off her mark of 120.

The performance which makes her look so well treated was her run at Haydock in April, where she contested a Listed Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle over 2m5f. She travelled up very powerfully that day, but at the second last she made a mistake and briefly lost her hind legs. That halt of momentum cost her a winning chance, but she still ran with a lot of credit for third place behind Dream Shadow (126) and more notably White Noise (137).

The Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle winner White Noise was only 2 lengths ahead of JUST A GLANCE that day, with our selection in receipt of 5lbs. They now reoppose in this Handicap where our selection will be in receipt of 17lbs however, meaning there is a 12lbs swing in our favour, and race fitness is also advantageously on our side. You’d imagine that the favourite will have many more future targets in mind, whereas this could be the day for our Mare to exact revenge.

TIP 2: NOVELISTA - 1pt Win

Best odds of 17/2 at BetMGM UK while publishing.

Warren Greatrex has got his Jumpers going along nicely at the minute, and I thought that the race-fit NOVELISTA was a big eye-catcher during his Maiden Hurdle effort at Fontwell in September. Having his first start for 127 days, he was under pressure all the way up the straight – but mistakes at the second last and especially the last cost him victory, as he was beaten just half-a-length by Moab (110). Had he jumped either of those flights he probably would have won, but regardless it leaves some untapped potential on Handicap debut.

This 4yo is a pretty smart Flat Horse, as in that sphere he is rated 84 owing to his early career with Charlie Johnston – but since joining Warren he hasn’t faired to badly over obstacles either. On Juvenile Hurdle debut at Ascot he got quite tired when finishing in sixth, but next time at Southwell he ran very well for second behind Road To Wembley (126), who has won twice since and has been progressive for the Olly Murphy yard.

This fairly weak looking Novices’ Handicap Hurdle looks the ideal place for NOVELISTA to make his Handicap debut off a very lowly mark of 109, and as a 4yo he receives an extra 1lb from his rivals to boot. Another significant factor is that Brian Hughes takes the ride, with James Bowen out injured at the moment. As a Juvenile he was described as a ‘Horse for next season’, so If he can brush up his jumping on this occasion, he surely has to be bang there at the finish with that run for fitness under his belt.

TIP 3: OUT IN DE WILD - 1pt Win

Best odds of 9/4 at William Hill while publishing.

Finally in the Bumper, I would be very keen on the chances of Alan King’s OUT IN DE WILD, who was
picked up for €80,000 by the Noel Fehily Racing Syndicate following his point-to-point second. That

form looks pretty decent now however considering it came behind Pointofdifference, who has since
joined Rebecca Curtis and bolted up in a Bumper at Ffos Las. Unfortunately, he never got to the track
last season due to a problem with his epiglottis, but perhaps that time off will have done him some
good in the sense that he has been able to develop further physically. He is reported to be working
very well at home, and whilst his future will be over Hurdles, he can win this before embarking on
that career.
