1/5 shot jumped and travelled well throughout before late error
Gordon Elliott will have breathed a huge sigh of relief after seeing the apple of his eye Death Duty just about land the spoils on his chase debut. The six-year-old had looked assured throughout the race, jumping with aplomb and travelling strongly into the final straight.
At one stage it looked a case of how far for backers of the 1/5 favourite but a late blunder at the last nearly saw Cap Daubois nick the race under a canny ride from Ruby Walsh. However, the Gigginstown horse managed to rally after the final fence to get back up again on the line and make it a double on the day for Elliott and jockey Davy Russell.
Some bookmakers reacted to the slick debut by cutting the Elliot horse to as short as 12/1 for the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March whilst the majority remained unchanged at 16/1.
