Unbeaten in three bumper starts, the five-year-old is highly thought of by connections
Last seen in April demolishing the field in a Fairyhouse bumper, there appears to be plenty of hype around Gordon Elliott’s five-year-old. That victory was one of three unbeaten starts since being purchased for £335,000 after winning a point-to-point and his trainer believes he is ‘very lucky to have him’.
Speaking to AtTheRaces, the trainer said: “Everything he did last season was amazing. He’s a horse that really excites and we are very lucky to have him. It’s hard to know how good he is. He’s got the pace for two miles, but he should have no problem staying well either.”
Punters have been quick to take note with over 45% of all bets on the Neptune ante-post market since the start of September on the son of Germany. Bookmakers obviously believe the hype is real and have cut the Gigginstown-owned horse into as short as 8/1 today, although some firms are still twice that price at 16/1.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: " From what we are seeing punters would be well advised to take the 16/1 about Samcro for the Neptune as the money continues to pour in for the well regarded horse. When backing novice hurdler for the Cheltenham Festival it is always tough to know whether go for the Supreme or the Neptune, but Elliot's conviction that he will stay has seen fans backing him for the latter."
Paddy Power have cut Samcro (8/1 from 14/1) for the Neptune today. Must have beat Beckford up the gallop this morning.
