The four-year-old has attracted 40% of all bets for the Supreme since the start of September
Every year there is always whispers (loud shouts) about a horse from the Mullins yard that is set to take Cheltenham by storm and this season is no different. Social media is awash with racing fans discussing the festival prospects for the once-raced four-year-old but it appears bookmakers are convinced the Supreme is the ideal test for the French maiden.
Yet to be seen on a racecourse on these shores, the gelding is as short as 10/1 with some firms for the opening race of the Festival in March. Those odds are a fraction of what was available at the start of last month where some firms were as big as 33/1. In the same timeframe, the Mullins horse has attracted a shade under 40% of all ante-post bets on the market, well-clear of the second most popular pick Sayar with just 13%.
Last season’s hype-horse Melon went on to finish second at Prestbury Park after running just once in Ireland, a 10 length victory at Leopardstown. If Annamix was to follow suit and put in a similarly impressive performance whenever he makes his debut, it’s hard to see those double-figure odds surviving the winter.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: "Just like Christmas, the hype for the Mullins hotpot for the Supreme seems to get earlier every year and this time it is Annamix who has National Hunt fans speculating. The fact that he has likely not even begun schooling yet is of not bother to punters, as the Mullins team's ability to recruit smartly from France is unquestionable and encouragement enough for many."
