We take a look at who Oddschecker punters have been backing so far this week
Presenting Percy – 12.4%
A winner at last season’s Cheltenham Festival, Pat Kelly’s six-year-old made an impressive start to life over fences at Galway on Monday. Jumping precision throughout, he put the race to bed impressively having travelled strongly throughout. Kelly said after the race: “I'm very happy with that and so was Davy. We'll see where we go from here, he jumped well in a very good race and I would hope that he can do at least as well over fences as he did over hurdles. There's plenty there to work with. He's an exciting horse for the future."
Bookies and punters alike were impressed with the 25/1 on offer for the RSA before the race now just 10/1 with one firm.
Definitely Red – 5.2%
Saturday’s Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby looks a cracker with Festival winners Coneygree, Cue Card and More Of That all set to take their place in a 13-strong field. Of those runners though, none have been as popular as Brian Ellison’s progressive stayer. Pulled up on his last start in the Grand National, the eight-year-old had previously won four of his nine starts over the larger obstacles. He’s also gone well fresh in the past, winning on three of his last four first starts of the season and punters have snapped up the 12/1 on offer at the start of the week with 8/1 now best price.
James Garfield – 3.8%
One of a battalion of European horses heading over to Del Mar for this year’s Breeders’ Cup, George Scott’s two-year-old will be bidding to give his trainer a first Breeders’ Cup success with his first ever runner when he goes in the Juvenile Turf on Friday. A winner of the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes on his last start in September, the Exceed and Excel colt is best price 6/1 in the ante-post betting.
Rajasinghe – 3.6%
Another two-year-old looking to fly the flag for a UK rookie trainer, Richard Spencer’s Royal Ascot winner has failed to add to his Coventry Stakes victory in his two starts since including when well beaten in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes last time out. However, with the ground expected to be similar to the conditions he faced at Ascot back in June, punters have been snapping up the 25/1 on offer in the Juvenile Turf.
Coneygree – 3.4%
The former Gold Cup winner has been installed as the favourite for Saturday’s ‘mini Gold Cup’ off the back of his huge run at Punchestown behind 2017 champ Sizing John. Connections believe they have him back to somewhere near his best following a frustrating period of injuries and setbacks and the ten-year-old escapes a penalty as a result and will be receiving weight from market rivals Cue Card, Definitely Red and Bristol De Mai. As big as 5/2 at the start of the week some firms are now as short as 7/4.
