Harry Fry’s five-year-old maintained his unbeaten record over hurdles with five length win
If The Cap Fits was cut across the board by bookmakers for the Supreme Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham in March powering clear up the Kempton run-in to land the Class 2 Novices’ Hurdle, the opening race on the King George card. Travelling powerfully throughout, Noel Fehily had him at the front of the chasing pack as Airtight set what was to prove an unsustainable gallop almost 10 lengths clear of the rest.
Fehily and the rest of the jockeys were happy to let him do his own thing in front before swooping on the home turn to battle it out. Fehily and his mount travelled strongly to the head of affairs and although he put in his two worst jumps of the contest, he still had plenty in the tank to power away from his rivals and win by an impressive five lengths.
Bookmakers reacted to the performance by cutting the gelding into as short as 10/1 in places with 16/1 the stand out price.
Those odds put him towards the top of the market behind the Gordon Elliott-trained duo Mengli Khan and Samcro who are as short as 5/1 and 3/1 respectively.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: "That was a taking performance by the Harry Fry horse and with plenty of room for improvement too. He showed just what an engine he has by striding clear up the run-in and although he threw in some less than perfect jumps on his way round, he looks a big type who will relish a fence in seasons to come!
