The first ever triple Clarence House winner has odds dropped for the Champion Chase and the Ryanair in March
It was a case of un, deux, trois for Un De Sceaux as Willie Mullins’ superstar made history by becoming the first horse to win three Clarence House Chase’s.
Sent off at 4-9, he reeled in Speredek who ran a mighty race to win comfortably and cement another win, his 15th in 20 races.
Attention now focuses to Cheltenham in March as Mullins can either let him go for the Ryanair Chase where he is the current outright favourite, or the Champion Chase where he has dropped as much as four points in places.
Slightly favoured ahead of Top Notch and Fox Norton in the Ryanair before this afternoon, Un De Sceaux now stands alone at a best price of 4-1. A lot of bookies have gone from 10s to around 6-1 for Champion Chase glory but one bookie is staying at double digits with 12-1 still out there.
Altior is still the one to beat according to punters and bookies for the Queen Mother’s race, with 6-4 the most you can currently get. With memories fresh from last year’s Cheltenham success, there is no reason that this much-loved horse can add to his already impressive trophy cabinet.
Oddschecker Spokseman George Elek: “Un De Sceaux had a chance to make history and he took it, landing the Clarence House for the third time. It’s made him a popular pick for Cheltenham glory, where he is currently favourite to claim back-to-back Ryanair Chases. But he’s also received attention for the Champion Chase, where there would be no more popular winner than Willie Mullins’ sprightly ten-year-old.”
