Get the verdict on some of the favourites at Cheltenham from two festival winning jockeys.
Cheltenham Festival winning jockeys Adrian Heskin and Nick Schofield joined Oddschecker’s George Elek to give their verdict on some of this year’s Cheltenham Festival hot favourites.
32Red ambassador Heskin was wary of the odds-on Mares Hurdle favourite Apple’s Jade, and also expressed concern about last year’s Arkle winner Altior in the Champion Chase.
In fairness to the Irish jockey, who is retained by Tom George, he was speaking before Altior’s triumph in the Denman Chase at Newbury on Saturday.
Nick Scholfield, who writes a weekly column for Oddschecker, was more bullish on the Festival favourites, predicting that all six would scoop the prize at Prestbury Park in March.
When quizzed on the two aforementioned horses, as well as Buveur d’Air, Samcro, Might Bite and Footpad, Scholfield replied ‘banker’ to all six.
Footpad was interestingly Willie Mullins’ only horse raised to the two jockeys, when in previous years the powerful Irish trainer has enjoyed most of the short price favourites at this stage of the Cheltenham build-up.
