Rain is being forecast which could make all the difference with some horses...
Bookies have slashed odds on the going at Cheltenham Festival being ‘soft’, as rain is forecasted to pour down on the racecourse.
William Hill set odds on ‘soft’ at a 3/1 outside shot just two weeks ago, due to the first day historically being good-to-soft.
However, following severe weather that swept through the nation over the past few weeks, punters and bookies have reacted.
Soft is now available at 4/7, and has attracted the vast majority of the betting with 81% of all bets in the last 24 hours.
The course was reportedly dry overnight and Clerk of the Course Simon Claisse has changed the official status to “good to soft, soft in places”.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “The ground at Cheltenham adds to the drama!
“If it wasn't hard enough already to pick the winners, nobody knows what kind of ground the horses will be trying to tackle.
“If you've backed lots of good ground horses, it may be a good call to have a hedge on the soft ground at 4/7!”
