Bettors race to back Our Duke for the Championship race following dominating victory
Presenting Percy has manipulated the Gold Cup massively, following his RSA Chase victory.
The seven-year-old cruised through the RSA and ended up winning by seven lengths ahead of rival Monalee.
Trainer Pat Kelly was bullish about his chances, going off 5/2 favourite for the race. Straight after the masterclass - punters rushed to their bookies to get involved in the Gold Cup market - all due to a meeting back in February at Gowran Park.
Our Duke pipped the even money favourite Presenting Percy to the line on that day, and Jessica Harrington’s horse has since been entered in the Gold Cup.
The support for Our Duke was hardly eye-catching before today, but since the second race of today there’s been a surge in bets.
Since the showdown, a massive 94% of bets in the Gold Cup market have been on Old Duke winning, which has seen his odds come crashing down with bookies.
Bookmakers are having a pretty dismal festival to date, and didn’t hang around with Our Duke’s price, he’s now as short as 4/1 after being 13/2 earlier.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “Our Duke's form looks spectacularly more impressive after the manner of Presenting Percy's win, but it is a bit of a surprise to see him now priced up as favourite.
“I have a feeling Might Bite fans will be out in force to send him off favourite come Friday.”
