The bookies have taken a beating again at the festival with favourites peppering the winners’ podium.
A huge gamble won the opener, but winner Shattered Love was well backed by the public.
The first of Gordon Elliott-trained winners could have been backed at 9/1 last night, however, that price was quickly snapped up by bettors. Shattered Love ended up taking the first race at as short as 4/1 with some bookies.
Gordon Elliott landed a quick-fire double when Delta Work secured victory in the second race.
Similar to Shattered Love, Delta Work was smashed by the punters, he was available at 12/1 the night before, and ended up winning at 6/1. Bookies clawed some money back when Un De Sceaux was beaten in the Ryanair Chase.
Willie Mullins’ horse was odds-on to win back-to-back Ryanair races, however, Henry De Bromhead’s Balko Des Flos had other ideas. A couple of bookies had the winner at 11/1.
Yet another favourite was turned over in the Stayers’ Hurdle, however the race was wide open in the betting, and support came for plenty of hopefuls.
Penhill added another win for the Mullins’ yard, Paul Townsend got the best out of the 12/1 winner.
Gordon Elliott completed a hat-trick when the well backed favourite, The Storyteller got up to take the last. With the yard in form, the bookies would have been praying for an upset, and soon cut the winner from 9/1 to as short as 5/1 before the off.
Plenty of ante-post punters lined up Laurina as a certainty in the Mares Novices’ Hurdle, and the Mullins horse didn’t disappoint. Laurina completed probably the easiest win of the festival, and gave the bookies another hammering in the penultimate race on day three.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “Un De Sceaux failure to capture another Ryanair Chase has saved the bookies from another tough day. Shattered Love and The Storyteller were very well backed, whilst high liabilities would have been built up on Gordon Elliott and Davy Russell multiples.
