A great last day for Bookies where not a single favourite got the job done.
Bookmakers have had a sterling last day at Cheltenham Festival, with favourites Apple’s Shakira and Might Bite failing to get the job done for punters.
Only 7.7% of bets were winners today, with punters failing to keep momentum going heading into the final day.
In total, only 8.6% of stakes paid out a winners as the festival came to a close.
Nicky Henderson’s Apple Shakira was the biggest winner for the bookies on the last day of racing.
It’s not been a Festival to remember for bookies however, with numerous favourites such as Samcro and Footpad getting the job done.
However, today is a resounding victory for traders, with millions of pounds staked on heavy favourites losing.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “Bookies have not necessarily had a Festival to remember, but managed to recoup a great deal of their losses on the last day.
“Apple’s Shakira accounted for a whopping 32.3% of all bets, and 58.4% of stakes – meaning a massive bullet was dodged.”
“In total, the final score between the bookie and the punter was an even score draw at 2-2, with punters winning the first two days and then bookies clawing it back with the final two.”
