Gordon Elliot’s horse wins the first race of the day at Cheltenham
Bookmakers have suffered a monumental win on the first race, with Apple’s Shakira failing to even place.
Apple’s Shakira accounted for 32.3% of bets in the market, but amazingly, no less than 58.4% of all STAKES.
The six-year-old was among the most backed horses heading into today’s action, with a plethora of accumulators being wiped out in the process.
Punters around Prestbury park bowed their heads in unison, as bookies collectively celebrated on the trading floor.
The six-year-old struggled to keep up with the pace and didn’t come close, with Gordon Elliott's Farclas taking the spoils at 9/1.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “ Apple's Shakira failed to justify the piqued market interest, which net the bookies a tidy profit at the start of the final day of the Cheltenham Festival.
“Farclas romped home to victory, piling on more misery for British racing as Ireland continue to dominate the week.”
