King George winner being backed for another Cheltenham success
Our Duke was the talk of the town following an easy win for Presenting Percy earlier in the festival.
Jessica Harrington’s horse was pipped by this year’s RSA winner at Gowran Park last month in very similar conditions.
Consequently, people now believe Our Duke will relish the going at Cheltenham this year. Yesterday, Our Duke could have been backed at 4/1 with a number of bookies, however he’s drifted to as big as 11/2 with six bookmakers.
Might Bite has regained his favourite tag following a barrage of support this morning with just under 30% of stakes being placed on the King George winner.
This in turn has led to 15 bookies slashing his odds. Nicky Henderson’s horse can still be backed at 9/2 with both Betfair and Sunbets, but is as short as 10/3 with Betbright.
Native River shot into Gold Cup contention following an impressive return at Newbury last month, however, bookies are less confident on his chances this morning.
11 different bookmakers have slightly lengthened the odds on last year’s horse that finished third. He can now be backed at 5/1 with the majority of bookies.
Road to Respect has been a notable mover in the Gold Cup, Noel Meade’s horse has been cut from 14/1 to as short as 10/1 with some bookies, he’s still 12/1 elsewhere.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “This looks like a very open Gold Cup, but Nicky Henderson seems to be the order of the day as Might Bite has been backed into favouritism.
“There does seem to be some quiet optimism around Road to Riches who is creeping down in the prices as Ireland look to land the race for the third year running.”
