Surge in bets on Laurina for Champion Hurdle following Mullins' comments
The mare is as short as 8/1 for the 2019 Champion Hurdle.
There has been an influx of ante-post bets on Laurina today as WIllie Mullins claimed that she will be aimed at the 2019 Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.
Mullins said: "She has come back in really good shape. I think she’ll stay hurdling. As far as we are concerned, she could be anything. She is unbeaten for us and everything is open to her. I think we’ll train her and campaign her with a view to the Champion Hurdle.
"She’ll need to improve to get to that level, but she’ll have the mares' allowance in her favour and it wouldn’t surprise me if she did."
69.5% of all bets on the market in the last 24 hours have been on the five-year-old, who won the Mares' Novice Hurdle in emphatic fashion earlier this year, by 18 lengths.
The 14/1 available about the mare yesterday morning was quickly snapped up and she now sits as short as 8/1 in places, but 10/1 is still on offer with a few firms.
She still sits behind the likes of the talented Buveur Dair (7/2), Samcro (4/1) and Melon (8/1) in the market.
Oddschecker spokesperson, George Elek: "Taking Willie Mullins' word at face value, especially when it comes to the Cheltenham Festival, has often proven costly yet with Laurina there seems no reason for her not to take on the boys if her progress continues.
"Many questioned how she would have fared in the other novice hurdle races at this year's event, and we could well see a heavyweight clash against Samcro if both are campaigned for the race."
