Paul Nicholls’ charge shocked a stellar field to win at Kempton and the markets have responded.
After a storming victory in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day, bookies have decimated their prices for Clan Des Obeaux winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Starting out at 50/1 before the highlight at Kempton, he’s now as short as 5/1 in places. The six-year-old gave Somerset-based trainer Paul Nicholls his tenth win in the coveted Boxing Day chase and is the most backed for the Gold Cup since that victory, attracting 49% of bets.
The other big steamer is Thistlecrack, who defied the odds to finish runner-up, and has now had his odds cut from 22/1 to as short as 8/1.
Having been heavily backed as favourite for the King George VI Chase at Kempton, Nicky Henderson’s Might Bite has tumbled down the Gold Cup market after finishing way back in seventh.
Previously priced at 6/1 in places, bookies have now raised their price for Might Bite to a best price of 16/1. Favourite Presenting Percy has also been clipped in as far as 3/1 as a result.
