40.5% of punters will be ruing their Cheltenham bets on the returning Annamix.
Cheltenham hype horse Annamix has drifted to 25/1 from 8/1 for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle after being a beaten favourite at Limerick.
The five-year-old has not raced for 830 days and was inexplicably priced up for the race at 2/9 when the markets opened but drifted before the off, and was beaten by almost three lengths after going off at 4/6f.
Since September, Annamix has been the third most popular horse for the Festival. 40.5% of all bets on the Supreme Novices market have been on the Mullins-trained horse at prices ranging from 8/1 to 11/1.
Those punters will be ruing their decisions as he is now lengthened all the way out to 25/1 and sits behind 12 other horses in the market.
Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek: ‘Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but many punters look to have jumped the gun on a horse that has not run for over two years.
‘Good words have obviously been coming out of the yard, but backing a horse that has been out for so long and only ever running once for the previous trainer was always going to come with risks attached.’
