It was another disappointing run for Gordon Elliott’s star as Sharjah wins the Ryanair.
Samcro was 4/1 this morning in places for the Ryanair Hurdle but that price has long gone, as another poor performance now sees the six-year-old a massive 25/1 for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham next year.
In contention at the final flight, he weakened considerably which left the door open for Sharjah to score and sees his own odds go as short as 5/1 for the same race.
It’s a sad state of affairs for backers of the hugely popular Irish hope, who has attracted the second most amount of bets this month for March’s race, behind only Buveur D’Air.
But ante-post punts right now look misjudged, as the suggestions start to roll in for what Samcro does next.
At the top of the market, Buveur D’air is the overwhelming favourite with punters (65% of bets this month) and bookies (6/4 best price). Laurina is behind at 5/1 best price, with Verdana Blue 12/1 best price.
Oddschecker spokesman George Elek: “Since the start of November when he lost at Down Royal, it’s been one disappointment after another and it’s hard to make a case for Samcro to be a winner at Cheltenham in any capacity. Racing can produce some funny things but if he does turn it around it will be right up there with anything we’ve previously seen.”
