Could Henderson be taking aim at the Cheltenham showpiece?
There has been a surge of bets on Altior to win the Gold Cup today as the horse has received 56.6% of all bets on the market.
Nicky Henderson’s superstar is available at 66/1 whilst another bookmaker is as short as 8/1, showing there is real discord in the market. Of those going NRNB, 7/1 and 8/1 is on offer.
Henderson revealed to Oddschecker exclusively last month that the Gold Cup route is being considered for his nine-year-old next season. Betting activity like this only fuels rumours he could be taking aim a year early.
Altior is still widely expected to line up in the Champion Chase – a race he won last year by 7 lengths – and is 1/2 to win it again in March.
Oddschecker spokesperson, George Elek: “It would be a shock if connections were to send Altior to the Gold Cup as he has never raced at anything over 2m 2f.
“The fact a few bookies are still taking no risks with the prices they are offering just shows how highly regarded this horse is.”
