With 50 days to go until the festival, these runners could stake their claims today.
13:00 Warwick – Laskadine (Triumph Hurdle) 33/1, 1/3 today
Nicky Henderson had a couple of promising Irish recruits beaten at the back end of last week, but he looks to have found a straightforward stable debut for this French purchase of JP McManus. Having won on her only racecourse appearance at Auteil back in September, these powerful connections saw enough promise to bring Laskadine to Seven Barrows and all eyes will be on her today, with some bookmakers already as short as 16/1 for the Triumph.
13:30 Warwick – Yellow Dockets (Mares Novice) 33/1, 6/5 today
With Epatante and Daphne du Clos already heading up the Mares Novice Hurdle market, trainer Nicky Henderson already has the cream of the crop in the division. Yellow Dockets looked a different horse to her bumper days when winning over obstacles for the first time on New Year’s Eve. Whether she is of the standard of the aforementioned stablemates remains unlikely, but a fine showing today would make a case for her moving towards the top of that market for the Cheltenham meeting.
15:45 Warwick – Shantou Flyer (Foxhunters Chase) 7/1, 11/10
With form figures of 14222 in his last five runs at Prestbury Park, it’s no shock to see Shantou Flyer at a single figure price as he enters the Foxunters Chase sphere under the expert guidance of new owner David Maxwell. It was heartbreak for Shantou Flyer backers last year as he was touched off by Coo Star Sivola in a thrilling Ultima Handicap Chase, and despite staying with trainer Richard Hobson, today’s run will be hugely indicative of what we can expect from him this season, especially after a wind op in the summer.
