In a day where Buveur D’air won again, it was Apples Jade that caused the biggest commotion in the Champion Hurdle market after impressing hugely in the Irish Champion Hurdle.
She became the first mare to win the race for 16 years and the result saw a flurry of bets on her to win the Champion Hurdle, pushing her odds as low as 2/1.
One bookie has broke from the rest however, and kept her odds at 6/1, a big best price compared to the rest.
That price sees her sitting third in the Champion Hurdle market, behind Buveur D’Air (7/4 best price) and Laurina (9/2 best price). But all the money this afternoon has gone on the seven-year-old.
Since the race ended, 66% of bets in the market have gone on Gordon Elliott’s superstar. That’s more than double the amount for Buveur D’Air, who has picked up 22% of bets in that time.
Eddie O’Leary stated after the race that Apples Jade will enter the Champion Hurdle if allowed, time will tell if these ante-post bets will come to fruition.
Oddschecker spokesman George Elek: “Apples Jade was available at 12/1 this morning, but this tenth Grade 1 success has really pushed her into Champion Hurdle contention, and a possible worthy contender to Buveur D’Air.”
