Punters following Willie Mullins’ grey in blind have had their fingers burnt two years running.
Annamix has been ruled out of Cheltenham festival for the second year running and the news has once again stung the pockets of ante-post punters.
Between October and November this season, Annamix was the most popular Cheltenham bet, accounting for 7% of bets in this period.
It’s a similar story to the previous season, where hopeful punters were left licking their wounds when the horse was confirmed as injured for the rest of the season as early as November.
In August and September 2017, the hype around the Willie Mullins horse caused the grey gelding to receive more bets than any other horse in that time.
What makes matters worse is that every single one of these bets would have been placed before the safety net of NRNB was introduced, causing damage to bettors’ bank accounts before the festival had even begun.
Oddschecker spokesperson, George Elek: "Annamix seemed to be the Willie Mullins hype horse for this season before he was a beaten odds-on favourite at Limerick in his first run in over two years in December.
"He and Samcro accounted for a sizeable chunk of the early money on this year's festival, and with both now ruled out, ante-post punters taking the risk last autumn will be full of regret."
