A current market favourite could see punters smash bookmakers at this year's festival.
A leading British bookmaker has revealed that Paisley Park winning the Stayers’ Hurdle would be the worst result for bookies at this year’s Cheltenham Festival.
Should he justify favouritism in the market, bookies are set to lose out on a colossal sum.
That result would see UK bookmakers hammered for an eye-watering estimated £10 million, with swathes of punters laughing all the way to the betting shops.
Now the 7/4 favourite to win the Stayers’ Hurdle, Emma Lavelle’s star started way out at 33/1 when markets opened.
Having been cut to 12/1 following a string of victories around Christmas, the seven-year-old was smashed into the short price after a 12-length demolition in the Cleeve Hurdle on Cheltenham Trials Day.
With a whopping 45% of bets on that market going his way, the gelding is in the top ten most backed horses at the entire festival.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: "Emma Lavelle told Oddschecker that Paisley Park is not only the best horse that she has ever trained, but also that she wouldn't swap him for any other of those lining up at the Festival next week.
"That enthusiasm is clearly shared by punters, with the popular horse attracting most of the attention in the Stayers market over the past couple of months.
"In recent years bookmakers have feared the Mullins and Walsh combination, although it could be that duo Faugheen to topple Paisley Park next Thursday."
