Horse racing enthusiasts stuck in work today find themselves in a bit of a pickle.
Do you go covert, and sneakily watch the Cheltenham coverage on your phone under your desk? It’s less risky, but it’s a rubbish way to watch the action.
Do you shamelessly plaster it – full-screen and full-volume – on your work monitor, risking a slap on the wrist from boss? Not if you want that Christmas bonus.
Well, we posed the question: “Would you take a sick day to watch Cheltenham?” – 43% of punters of a pool size of 1000 said: “Yes”.
It’s certainly risk-free: no snitching co-workers, no bull-busting-bosses and no need for any celebratory restraint – it’s the oldest trick in the book; just don’t come into work next week wearing a shiny new pair of trainers…
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Cheltenham is the highlight of the racing calendar, and plenty of equine aficionados would do anything to make sure they’re welded to their sofa to witness the sparks flying.”
“Pulling a sickie is the obvious way out, and many will likely be feeling pretty ropey the next day too.”
