Leaders falter on final day to allow the reigning champions to defend their Cheltenham Traders Tipping League crown
We headed into Gold Cup day with a number of sides needing to play a massive hail mary to be in with a chance of being crowned the 2019 Cheltenham Traders Tipping League champions and that is exactly what the majority of sides did. The hit rate was particularly low as a result with the only success on the board coming from Betway in the first with 1pt each way on Pentland Hills at 22/1 and BlackType with a 5pt 9/2 winner in the finale.
The Friday at Cheltenham is renowned for being tough. Renowned for being the day that the bookies get the beating of punters. And now, renowned as Betway Friday. Following Tipstanbul in 2018, the reigning champions have romped over the final fence and made a mockery of the hill by moving from fourth position in the League to first. A stunning victory out of no where a la Paisley Park and one which will not be forgotten in a hurry.
At the other end of the table, my condolences are with Coral and Paddy Power whose weekend's will be spent gathering their thoughts and wondering where on earth it went wrong. 0 wins, 0 places and -60 points on the board for the pair. There will be better days.
