British bookmakers in clover as Cheltenham comes to a close.
Only 7.2% of win-only bets have been settled as winners on the final day of the Festival, as bookmakers clean up on the final day of the Festival.
A day of long-shot winners has proved problematic for punters, with Minella Indo (50/1), Pentland Hills (22/1), Ch’tibello (12/1) and Al Boum Photo (12/1) winning each of the first four races.
It’s been a mixed bag for punters over the four days, with Wednesday and Thursday being profitable for punters.
Punters kicked off the Festival with a shocker, with only 7% of win-only bets landing as things got underway on Tuesday.
Things improved on Ladies Day, with big Festival favourites Altior and Tiger Roll getting the job done in fine fashion.
In fact, a whopping 46% of win-only bets landed on the second day of the Greatest Show on Turf, as punters clawed back some of the cash lost on Tuesday.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “It’s been a Festival of ups and downs, lowlights and highlights, but certainly one to remember.
“Friday has always been the day that ‘bookies get their own back’ and so it has proved this year.
“No favourites winning in the first four races has put some money back into bookies pockets, who were cursing the likes of Altior, Tiger Roll and Sire Du Berlais earlier in the week.”
