The Queen Mother Champion Chase is one of the most prestigious races at the Cheltenham Festival. Run over 1m 7f and 199y, this Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase is open to horses aged five years or older.
In the last 10 years, which horses have won the Champion Chase?
Altior has won the Champion Chase for the last two years, cementing his legacy as one of Cheltenham Festival’s greatest horses.
Nicky Henderson’s gelding was priced at evens in 2018 to win the Champion Chase, while he was as short as 4/11 in 2019, where Nico de Boinville crossed the line 1 3/4 lengths ahead of Politologue in second place.
Sprinter Sacre is another horse who has won the Champion Chase twice in the last decade.
Again trained by Nicky Henderson, Sprinter Sacre won the Champion Chase in 2013 and 2016, ridden by Barry Geraghty and Nico de Boinville respectively.
The biggest-price winner of the Champion Chase over the last 10 years was Special Tiara, who won despite going off at 11/1.
The favourite for this year’s Champion Chase is Defi Du Seuil, priced at 9/4.
