Champion Chase - 10 year Stats and Trends

The Queen Mother Champion Chase is run on the second day of the Cheltenham Festival and is the feature race of the day. The race has seen horses come back to win year after year. Stars such as back-to-back winner Altior, and returning favourite Sprinter Sacre, are two in recent times that have won the race on more than one occasion. Nicky Henderson heads the top trainer list in recent times, winning the race a staggering five times.

Short and sweet but below I have highlighted some ten year stats and trends that any savvy punter looking to make it pay at the Cheltenham Festival in 2020 will want on their side.

In 2019 Altior looked to be in a bit of trouble jumping the final flight until his stamina kicked in and he powered away up the hill impressively to win back-to-back Champion Chases.

4/10 favourites have won, two of which were heavily odds-on. However, the average SP of the Champion Chase winner is 6/1.

Britain or Ireland?

Britain fare best in this race winning 7/10 renewals. Henry De Bromhead is responsible for two of the Irish winners but the strength in British two milers has grown over the years; winning 7 of the last 8 renewals.
