There have been a flurry of bets on Blackmore…
Rachael Blackmore has been heavily punted into the second favourite to be named Cheltenham Festival’s first-ever female Top Jockey.
Hailing from Co Tipperary, the 30-year-old has had her odds slashed from 14/1 into just 5/1 to ride the most winners at the Festival.
Some bookmakers have gone one step further, cutting her into 4/1.
That’s due to a flurry of bets on Blackmore, with a whopping 28% of all bets over the last week backing the Irish star.
In turn, that makes her the most backed in the market by a considerable distance, with favourite Paul Townend the second most-backed with 18% of all bets.
Townend is the 9/4 market leader to be named Top Jockey, with Blackmore hot on the heels of the Irishman.
Elsewhere, Davy Russell is the third favourite at 11/2, followed by Barry Geraghty (6/1), Nico De Boinville (8/1) and Robbie Power (16/1).
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “One of the biggest talking points surrounding this year’s Festival is the superb Rachael Blackmore and her quest to be crowned top jockey.
“Traditionally dominated by Ruby Walsh, racing is crying out for his the next superstar jockey and punters up and down the country are backing it to be Blackmore.
“Five rides tomorrow, including Notebook, could see Blackmore off to a winning start on the first day of the Festival. It’ll be interesting to see how the top jockey market reacts should she be triumphant."
