Champion Hurdle 2024

One of horse racing’s brightest stars, Nicky Henderson’s Constitution Hill, has seen a dramatic shift in the betting markets for the Champion Hurdle following a public gallop on Tuesday morning.

Constitution Hill Cheltenham Odds

Previously priced as the 6/4 favouritefor the Champion Hurdle, Constitution Hill’s odds have now drifted to 4/1, with bookmakers continuing to lengthen prices as speculation mounts over the horse’s future.

During a public gallop at Newbury, Constitution Hill appeared to struggle to keep pace with stablemate Sir Gino at what many described as a mild pace. This performance has ignited intense speculation on X (formerly Twitter) about the possibility of the seven-year-old’s retirement from racing.

Lossiemouth has now overtaken Constitution Hill as the new favourite for the Champion Hurdle at shortest odds of 5/2. However, you can still back her at 3/1 through oddschecker here.

Fighting Fifth Hurdle Odds Drift

Constitution Hill was expected to make his seasonal debut in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle next Saturday. However, the uncertainty surrounding his future has caused his odds to drift from 4/7 to 6/4 for that race.

Leon Blackman from oddschecker said: “Constitution Hill’s performance at Newbury has set alarm bells ringing for both fans and bookmakers. The betting drift we’re seeing is significant, and it’s unusual for a horse of this calibre to lose favour so quickly in the markets.

“Rumours of retirement are yet to be confirmed, but the shift in the odds reflects the nervous anticipation among punters. Lossiemouth’s emergence as the new favourite for the Champion Hurdle at 5/2 highlights just how unsettled the market has become in a matter of hours.”
