The fourth and final day of the 2026 Cheltenham Festival is already upon us and it’s been a mixed bag on the results front. I’ve had a few nice winners at decent prices while a couple have rattled the crossbar, so hopefully I can end on a positive note.
Here, I look through the card and give my best bets on Gold Cup day at Prestbury Park. Who will claim victory in the feature race of the jumps season? Only time will tell – it looks like an absolute cracker and you could make a case for most of them!

Reportedly going very well at home ahead of this engagement, I’m opting to give Cork winner MINELLA ACADEMY a chance in this race. It’s a huge step up from an Academy Hurdle to a Grade 1 at Cheltenham but he is worth a go at a big price.
A £370,000 purchase at Goffs in November, he could have significant improvement to come and it’s interesting that Danny Mullins rides him over Macho Man. Bred to be a speedy enough type, he could go very nicely for the in-form Closutton team.
County Hurdle
County Hurdle Tips
Paul Townend’s only handicap ride of the entire week, KARBAU is the clear favourite to win the County Hurdle and he has a fantastic chance of being competitive based on his form at Aintree and Punchestown at the back end of last season.
He’s not been missed in the betting and backers wouldn’t want too much rain to fall on Thursday night. If the ground remains good, good to soft in places then I’d give Karbau a big chance of proving too strong. He could be a Grade 1 horse in a handicap.

I’ve said for the last few weeks that I want to try and take Dinoblue on and I’ve landed on the Dan Skelton-trained PANIC ATTACK. She has been a revelation this season, winning the Paddy Power Gold Cup and Coral Gold Cup and she seems to be better than ever.
Connections have stated that the Grand National is her ultimate target but she’s in rude health and she can take this prize on the way to Aintree. She’s got a bit to find on ratings but receives 3lbs from the favourite and the Skeltons are in red hot form.

A left-field shout but I’m warming to the chances of HIPOP DE LOIRE and the booking of Harry Cobden is a positive one. He’s ran just twice over hurdles, but it is the form of his Galway success last summer that catches my eye.
He bolted up in a 2m6f maiden hurdle, pulling clear of a decent enough field – with the likes of Zanndabad and Son Of Anarchy trailing behind. He is rated 107 on the flat, he’ll stay the trip and I’m hoping he has the class to overcome his inexperience.

Cheltenham Gold Cup Tips
I’ve been banging the drum for GAELIC WARRIOR in the Cheltenham Gold Cup all year long and I put him up at 16/1 for the race in my Oddschecker season preview. He has an excellent opportunity and Paul Townend will be in the saddle – which is a huge positive.
Taking nothing away from the winner, I felt he was unlucky in the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park but he can make amends here. The extra distance will be of no concern and a drop of rain will surely enhance his chances too. He has a lot going for him.

I’m not even going to try and claim that I know enough about these runners to land on a selection in this race. The heart would probably lean towards STATTLER and the booking of Patrick Mullins would give me hope but I’d be lying if I said he is a strong fancy.

Martin Pipe Tips
Last but certainly not least, one of my strongest handicap fancies of the meeting goes in the Martin Pipe and I’m hoping that Henry de Bromhead has had a winner or two by the time AIR OF ENTITELEMENT lines up in the Festival finale.
She’s been campaigned tenderly this season, with a view to peaking in the spring and I have no doubt she will benefit for the step up in trip. Owned by Robcour, she relished the uphill finish in the Mares Novices Hurdle last year and she can go close here.
