Bookmakers were quick to cut English King’s odds for the Derby as soon as he crossed the line this afternoon. Ed Walker’s colt was as big as 66/1 before the race with two firms, before being cut into as short as 5/1 favourite.

15/2 is the standout price about the three-year-old following his commanding display. Plenty make him the new favourite for the Derby, toying with Military March at the top of the market.

Punters were clearly taken with the performance too, with an incredible 90% of all bets on the market being placed on him in the last 12 hours.

He could have hardly been more impressive as he sauntered up the straight, easing past his main market rival Berkshire Rocco, before stretching out to the finish line under Tom Marquand.

He was well found in the market for the trial, with 4/1 available yesterday, before being sent at 9/4.

He kept out of trouble near the back of the field, before slicing through the field with ease. It was a classy performance from a classy colt and bookmakers are taking no chances with their new prices on English King. Many believe we may have seen a very special horse this afternoon, and his new place at the top of the Derby market is entirely justified.
