Glorious Goodwood Wednesday ITV Racing Tips

There’s no doubting William Knight’s four-year-old will need to produce a career best run to land the opening race on day two of Glorious Goodwood, however there is reason to think that 25/1 is cracking value. Back in May, SEINESATIONAL (best price 33-1) ran into traffic but was flying inside the final furlongs to finish third. Since that run he beat Diocletion who should have won last week (finished second), and then he finished sixth at Kempton. There are obvious concerns with the distance, but back on turf this horse has the potential to spring a surprise.

FUN MAC (best price 14-1) wasn’t disgraced when having a crack at 2m4f last time out. The eight-year-old finished fourth to the The Grand Visir but came from a long way back to finish the race strongly. If Hughie Morrison can remain closer to the leading pack then he might be able to land a serious challenge in the final few furlongs.

DURSTON (best price 15-2) ran into trouble when trying to come from the back of the field at Chester, despite being badly hampered he still had plenty in hand when pulling away from Lariat to win. He’s beaten some quality horses in the last two races, a good few have put in a few stellar performances since. The conditions won’t bother David Simcock’s horse. Expect him to bide his time under Jamie Spencer and pounce near the line.

Regular readers will realise this isn’t the first time I’ve sided with LIBERTY BEACH (best price 7-4), we were on at 8/1 when scoring at Beverley and then back on when placing at Ascot (33/1). She delivered a cracking run when winning with ease at Sandown, taking down the likes of Dream Shot, Rayong and Al Raya. The ground drying will only be a benefit for Liberty Beach.

Too Darn Hot shouldn’t be verging on odds-on following a season which has been a little disappointing (admittedly he’s not been a million miles away), and I worry the ground won’t necessarily suit Too Darn Hot. That leave CIRCUS MAXIMUS (best price 7-2) when looking at the big three who seemed to relish the step back to 1m. The three-year-old should take well to the bit of cut in the ground and is a decent bet at 7/2 to win back-to-back races.

MIGHTY SPIRIT (best price 5-2) has been in fine form without managing to secure a win from five starts. Two of those were in huge fields, finishing third and sixth. The conditions won’t be a problem for the two year-old and this smaller field might be what’s needed to get the first win on the board.

NEAROOZ (best price 7-2) was slow away and then had a tricky ride when finishing a close runner-up to Ocala last time out. Roger Varian’s filly can reverse that form today and get back to winning ways. The extra distance seemed to suit, but she will want the ground to keep drying.

BLACKHEATH (best price 9-1 / 5 places) has been punished in the weights but could have a lot more to offer at this distance. The four-year-old will enjoy the ground drying, and has been drawn well. The form from his last win has worked out well, Graphite Storm (finished runner-up) has since won and Admirality (third) ran a very good race at Ascot.
