The nine-year-old won the Cotswold Chase impressively and all eyes are now on Aintree in April
In a race where Bristol De Mai was an uneasy favourite during the week, it was Definitly Red who stole the show and won the Cotswold Chase from American, breaking Brian Ellison’s Cheltenham hoodoo in the process.
It was a first win at the track for Ellison, who will now be hoping that Red can reproduce what we saw on Trials day in the nation’s biggest race.

The reaction amongst bookies was immediate, with odds slashed from a generally available 25/1 before the race to as short as 14s in places. However 20/1 is the best current price, as the nine-year-old becomes the second favourite.
Still at the top of the market is Blaklion, available almost across the board at 10/1. But with the last favourite to win the National coming all the way back in 2010, we may well see more and more bets coming in on Definitely Red, whose performance up the famous hill today would have satisfied many.
Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “In what was a crucial day for many horses Cheltenham chances, it was Definitly Red who did his chances the world of good for the Grand National. The drop in odds is not surprising after a performance as good as the one we saw in the Cotswold Chase. Brian Ellison will hold every hope for the big one after breaking his Cheltenham duck.”
