Nicky Henderson’s horse is attracting a lot of punting attention ahead of Champion Chase showdown.
Despite being lame on Monday, Queen Mother Champion Chase favourite Altior is not dissuading punters from backing him.
Altior is going for thirteen winners in a row, and the majority of the British public believe he’ll cruise to victory in the featured race of today.
In the last 24 hours a massive 65% of stakes placed in the Queen Mother Champion Chase have been placed on Nicky Henderson’s charge.
Day One of the Festival played perfectly for favourite backers, with both Footpad and Buveur D’Air sailing in.
However, bookies took some of the cash back with Apples Jade failing to secure victory in the Mares’ Hurdle.
Injury concerns earlier in the week suggested short price favourites could come up short backing Altior.
However, everyone associated with the star horse has expressed those worries no longer exist.
Douvan may have caused some sleepless nights for some ante-post punters, with the legendary horse currently sitting at 7/2 to scupper Altior’s bid to win again at Cheltenham.
Rumoured injuries and Douvan’s entry has led to Altior drifting to 5/4 in the market - but punters haven’t been put off - and now see more value in the horse.
Only 7% of the money has been placed on triumphant return for Douvan.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “This is the Tyson v Lewis of the Festival; Altior and Douvan will finally go toe-to-toe in what is one of the most anticipated races of recent years.
“Whilst punters are siding with Altior, there will undoubtedly be an almighty cheer should Douvan bounce back to form at Prestbury Park.”
