The publishing of the weights for the Aintree showcase have sparked punters into life.
Following the declaration of the weights for the 2019 Grand National at Aintree, punters have flocked to the market to grab the prices while they can.
It is the Irish-trained gelding Mall Dini that has received the most backing since the announcement, with 17% of bets in the last 24 hours. In comparison, the next most backed has accrued just under 7% of bets, Gary Moore’s Traffic Fluide (40/1).
Weighted at 10 stones 3 pounds, Patrick G Kelly’s Mall Dini is priced at 25/1, putting him fifth in the market currently.
Last year’s winner Tiger Roll will be bidding to emulate Red Rum by achieving back-to-back wins in the great steeplechase.
Though leading the market at 20/1, punters don’t seem to fancy him to manage such a feat at 11-01, with only 4% of bets since the weight declarations.
Top of the weights is Betfair Chase winner Bristol De Mai, weighted at 11-10 and priced accordingly at a hefty 33/1. Accruing just over 1% of bets, Nigel Twiston-Davies’ star stayer doesn’t appear to be fancied off that mark.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Tiger Roll will have to defy the weights should he repeat the trick at Aintree this year, and it is another Irish raider who is capturing the imagination in the form of Mall Dini.
“Punters beware though, it is now just 5/1 that no Irish trained horses will run in the race at all due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Brexit negotiations.”
