Gordon Elliott’s stayer is 11/2 to win the world’s most famous steeplechase back-to-back.
Tiger Roll fever has struck punters in the last seven days as the Cheltenham festival winner has attracted more bets on the Grand National than the next 20 most backed horses combined.
The 42.2% of bets Gordon Elliott’s horse has received is an unprecedented amount at this stage. In the last five years, a single horse has got nowhere close to being this popular for the race over the same time period.
Minella Rocco in 2017 is the only horse remotely near to challenging Tiger Roll’s popularity with punters, but even Jonjo O’Neill’s gelding had only received more bets than the next 6 most backed, with a 26.3% share of the support.
If 11/2 shot Tiger Roll can win the 2019 Aintree showpiece, he will make history by becoming the first horse to win the event in consecutive years since the infamous three-time champion, Red Rum.
Oddschecker spokesperson, Goegre Elek: "Tiger Roll is fast becoming the most popular horse in training and, if he makes it to Aintree next month, will surely go off as one of the shortest price favourites for the race in recent history.
"Backers beware though; owner Michael O'Leary has expressed doubts as to whether he will try to defend his crown at the Cheshire track."
