After missing out on our 524/1 treble by one leg, we go again at Aintree!
Randox Health Foxhunters Open Hunters Chase
For those who may have missed it, we were agonisingly close to landing this mammoth ante-post treble at Cheltenham Festival. Without dwelling any further, I'm hoping to go one better this week...
ROAD TO ROME will benefit massively from the step back in trip, the nine-year-old looked to make all before being swallowed up near the final fence at Cheltenham. That loss came off the back of seven straight wins. He’s 9/2 to win at Aintree, and for me is the stand out horse over this distance.
Merseyrail Handicap Hurdle
Nigel Twiston-Davies' horse caused carnage in his last outing at Sandown, the six-year-old was announced the winner before the result was overturned due to an error with the finishing line. ONE FOR ROSIE had to come pretty wide to get round the pack, but looked sure to win the race before being tracked down by Third Wind in the final few strides. A clearer run and he would have held on for the victory, and I think he’s well worth a punt at 10/1 to land the Merseyrail Handicap Hurdle.
The weather won’t be a concern for the six year-old, he’s got good form on good and soft. This could be a very good horse, last November he beat Glen Forsa with ease at Carlisle.
Topham Handicap Chase
JANIKA would be a lot shorter for the Topham Handicap Chase if he had not faced Siruh Du Lac in the last two outings.
Siruh Du Lac is one of the most impressive jumpers around at the moment, and Nicky Henderson’s horse was always going to struggle to topple him at Cheltenham. In December, Janika finished second to Hell’s Kitchen, who has since gone on to finish 4th to Altior, and beating the likes of Min and Saint Calvados. Nicky Henderson’s impressive record only bolsters Janika’s chances.
