
Cheltenham is looking like it’ll go ahead, but it’s not looking so great for Aintree…
The Grand National is in serious jeopardy of being postponed or cancelled, according to the latest betting market from the Betfair Exchange.
In the market “Will racing go ahead at Aintree on April 2nd’, ‘no’ is currently the favourite at 4/5.
On the other side, it's 10/11 that the racing festival goes off on time.
In percentage chances, that means there’s a 55.6% chance that Aintree will not go ahead on April 2nd.
Looking at the ‘yes’ market, there’s a 52.4% implied probability chance that racing is given the go-ahead for the Liverpool meeting.
Around £5,500 has been traded in the market since it opened, with punters edging on the side of caution and backing the Festival not to go off on time.
Elsewhere, there is good news for racing fans, with Cheltenham Festival looking incredibly likely to start on March 10th, with odds now at 2/11 that it starts on time.
In percentage chances, that’s an 84.6% that the Greatest Show on Turf kicks off this coming Tuesday (March 10th).
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “While it looks like the Cheltenham Festival will escape the imminent mass cancellations of large gatherings due to coronavirus fears, the Aintree Festival may not be quite so lucky.
“The Grand National is the highlight of many punters' racing calendars, but with the COVID-19 virus set to spread like wildfire, it seems like only a matter of time before these large events are clamped down on.”
