We've got two outright picks for Wimbledon 2021 including 8/1 and 12/1 e/w shots.
Men's Wimbledon 2021 Predictions
First things first, Novak Djokovic is a the legitimate odds-on favourite for this tournament at 10/11 and I do think he wins, to move level with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on twenty grand slam titles.
The reason for that is with no grass court season last year, there has not been enough match experience on the surface for a lot of the younger in form players to be confident in backing any of them.
Matteo Berretini won his second grass court tournament at Queens though and Dannil Medvedev just won his first in Mallorca this week, which does make things interesting.
Wimbledon 2021 Draw
The bottom half of the draw certainly looks the more challenging, with Berretini, Medvedev, Federer and Zverev as well as former finalist Marin Cilic and Kei Nishikori, who has reached the quarter finals in the last two tournaments at SW19.
Djokovic, being the number one seed is in the top half of the draw and looks to have the smoother run through the draw. There will be question marks over a Roland Garros hangover for Tsitsipas and his heavy top spin game will need some adapting before he can challenge on grass.
Andrey Rublev is a player I could see doing well at Wimbledon in future years, with the quality of his forehands on the run and passing shots. He finds himself in Djokovic's quarter though, so the best he can hope for is a quarter final against the Serb.
The second quarter is one that interests me, with the aforementioned Tsitsipas the highest seed. Having successfully tipped him to win his quarter in Melbourne and Paris I am keen to oppose him in London.
Denis Shapovalov has shown some form on grass as a young, inexperienced player and has a game perfectly suited to this surface. He takes the ball extremely early, hits flat on both groundstrokes and has both a sliding serve and flat one down the middle making him a dangerous opponent.
Coming into this tournament as the tenth seed, he couldn't have asked for a better quarter of the draw and while he hasn't gone past the semi final stage of his warm up tournaments in Stuttgart and at Queens, he is a confidence player and I'm happy to back him to go on a run at 8/1 in this quarter.
As I said at the start of this preview, I think Djokovic wins this tournament. I am keen to back a player to win outright e/w in the bottom half of the draw though.
That player is Berrettini. Of the players in the bottom half I mentioned above, Federer, Medvedev and Cilic are all in the fourth quarter, while Berretini, Zverev and Nishikori are the players I see performing best in the third.
Like Shapovalov, Berrettini has a game suited for grass with a big serve and forehand, with many comparisons made with Juan Martin Del Potro. He also has a very good transitional game to the net and has been known to serve and volley.
Add to that the fact that he already has two grass court titles to his name, I make him the player with the best chance of making it out of this half of the draw.
In what could be Federer's last shot at the Wimbleodn title, I don't see a fairytale ending for him at 39 and I don't see his body holding up against the players mentioned above once we're past the first couple of rounds.
With Medvedev and Zverev still needing to work on their movement and general adaptation to grass at the highest level, Berrettini is my pick here at 12/1 e/w.
