Wimbledon 2022 moves on to round 2 and we've put together an appealing 14/1 acca across the men's matches.
I’m a little surprised to see Quentin Halys as the underdog in this match. Basilashvili has not been able to replicate the sparkling from he has showed over the last three or four years taking him to number 26 in the world, only winning 37.5% of matches this season.
He just managed to scrape past veteran Lukas Rosol in the first round winning in five sets but I think he will come unstuck here against Halys.
Halys has a big serve and powerful game that saw him win three indoor tournaments at the back end of 2021 and is improving on this surface having won 62% of his matches on grass this year.
Basilashvili has never been as comfortable on grass as on the clay and hard courts so I see this matchgoing with the form book as opposed to the pedigree and am happy to take Halys at 6/5.
I can see why the bookies have priced Tim Van Rijthoven as the favourite in this match after his stunning s’Hertogenbosch win in his home country, beating Danniil Medvedev and Felix Auger Aliassime along the way.
Other than that tournament though, he is somewhat of an unknown quantity on grass with his only other senior match before this tournament coming in a qualifying loss at Surbiton only a month ago.
I wouldn’t say Reilly Opelka’s favourite surface is grass by any stretch of the imagination but he is a former junior Wimbledon champion and took th scalp of Stan Wawrinka here in 2019.
He has a huge serve and while his movement will likely restrict him in making a bigger run in this tournament, I see him coming through this match with evens a great price.
With Hurkacz faling in the first round, Alexander Bublik is now a real danger in that second quarter and could make a big run in this tournament.
Having breezed past injury doubt Marton Fucsovics in the first round, he now takes on world number 64, Dusan Lajovic.
Their grass court win records are poles apart with Bublik at 55.3% and Lajovic at 21.3%. While that is a little deceptive with Lajovic losing multiple five set matches at Wimbledon, he is now 32 and I can’t see him improving on this surface from here.
Bublik’s big serve (he led the Tour in 2021 for number of aces served during that season) and powerful game will likely be too much for the more consistent Lajovic, which should see him cover the -5.5 games handicap at 5/6.
Alejandro Davidoch Fokina comes into this match having taken out one of the favourites for the tournament in Herbert Hurkacz in five sets and gain showing his all-court prowess.
A former Wimbledon champion, he has also shown promise on grass on the Tour and the big-serving Jiri Vesely will be another test for him.
That serve has yielded Vesely an avg 83.8% behind his first serve on grasss this season and he’s also been involved in eight tie-breaks in five matches.
In beating Hurkacz, Fokina broke the Pole’s serve four times hitting 68 winners. I see Fokina as the likely winner here but can see a long match going over 38.5 games at 5/6.
