Predictions, latest odds and two betting tips for the 2024 Australian Open.
Australian Open
The first of the year’s Grand Slams kicks off on 14th January as Melbourne Park hosts two weeks of top tier tennis action featuring some of the biggest names in the sport.
In the Men’s Australian Open, the man to beat is, of course, Novak Djokovic. The Serbian, now 36, has won on the Australian hardcourt 10 times and is ranked at No.1 heading into the tournament. Can anyone stand in his way or will he make it 11?
In the Women’s tournament, the field is more open, but only somewhat. A ‘Big Four’ has emerged in the form of Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek and last year’s champion, Aryna Sabalenka, all vying for the first major title of the year.
But who will leave Melbourne Park victorious on February 28th?
2024 Australian Open Predictions
It was Rybakina vs Sabalenka in the final last year, and the former will be hoping to go one better this year after a disappointing 2023 where her best performance outside of Australia was a quarter final appearance at Wimbledon.
World No.2 Sabalenka had a strong 2023, reaching at least the semis of each Grand Slam, with a win in Australia and a final appearance at the US Open. She’s 5/1 on BetMGM.
Coco Gauff comes in at 7/1 (Midnite) but has endured a fractured 2023, but she did win the most recent Slam on home turf at the US Open. World No.1 Swiatek is the favourite to win the tournament at 5/2 (Betfred), and is in fine form, but has yet to progress past the semi-finals in any of her five previous appearances in Australia.
On the men’s side, it’s Djokovic or bust. At 11/10 on Ladbrokes, the 10-timer won three of the four majors in 2023, and would’ve made it a clean sweep had Carols Alvarez not pipped him to the post at Wimbledon.
Alvarez is his closest competitor in the outright market at 7/2 on BetVictor, but the 20-year-old has never progressed beyond the third round in Melbourne and he’ll be competing against a man who hasn’t lost here since 2018.
Beyond the world’s top two, the odds are pretty long in every direction. Will it be a two horse race between the young pretender and one of the all-time greats?

2024 Australian Open Tips
Daniil Medvedev to Reach the Men’s Final - @ 5/1 Betfair
It’s difficult to look past Djokovic for a win in Melbourne given his pedigree, form and history at this event. To outline Djokovic’s dominance, last year’s runner up Stefanos Tsitsipas is ranked at 50/1. My tip in the men’s tournament is to look at the other side draw of the draw to Djokovic, where the literal standout will be 6 foot 6 Daniil Medvedev.
He’s the current world no.3, and recently lost to Djokovic in the US Open. He’s 5/1 on Paddy Power and Betfair at the time of writing to reach the Australian Open Final.
Sabalenka to Win the Women’s Australian Open @ 5/1 Betfred
The women’s tournament throws up more of a conundrum. Swiatek has never performed well in Melbourne, nor does she have a simple route to the final as she plays 2020 victor Sofia Kenin in the opening round. Meanwhile, 2016 winner Angelique Kerber could wait in the next round. Swiatek also finds herself in the top half of the draw with Rybakina.
Meanwhile, Sabalenka has a much easier run in, plus she has form on her side with her win at this event last year and having the best Slam record out of the ‘Big Four’ in 2023. With the draw and formbook on her side, and a title to defend, Sabalenka is my pick.
