Best Bets

Jelena Ostapenko and Angelique Kerber have both made relatively serene progress through the draw at Wimbledon this year.

This will be the first career metting between the two players and should be the more competitive of the two semis, with this one being very hard to call.

Ostapenko is improving all the time on grass and hasn't dropped a set in this tournament yet, though I don't know if she'll have enough to overcome the experienced Kerber, who is a former finalist at SW19 and has dropped only one set herself this year.

I see this one being very topsy-turvy and for that reason I'm backing the match to go to three sets at best price 11/8.

Serena Williams struggled past Camila Giorgi in the last round but I don't see any massive problems for her against Julia Goerges in this semi final.

Goerges' record at Wimbledon is the worst of the four grand slams, and while she's having a good year in 2018 this looks a bridge too far for the German.

Serena beat Georges convincingly only a month ago at the French Open only on the German's favourite surface, so I only see the gap widening between the two players on the grass at Wimbledon.

For that reason, I'm backing Williams to cover the -5.5 handicap in what should be a straight forward win for the American.
